Located in the heart of Massapequa, the preserve is one of the most beautiful parks in the area. Perfect for biking it rides along a stream surrounded by trees and gardens. The preserve is officially named The Peter J. Schmitt Massapequa Preserve and is made up of 432 acres. It contains a bike trail, hiking trail via the Greenbelt, as well as fishing and nature walks.
By most accounts, it is considered one of the most beautiful areas in Nassau County and one of the most hidden. It’s right in the middle of Massapequa but being inside feels like you’re in the middle of the forest. The trail is well known for being one of the few places in Nassau County that you can actually feel like an escape from the surrounding suburban sprawl.
Sunset over the lake itself is simply incredible and a wonderful inland view.
In addition, it’s a great path to traverse Long Island and go from the Long Island Expressway in the North down to Massapequa Preserve and then to bike further down to Cedar Beach and go all the way down to the ocean.
