Massapequa Preserve has both a paved bike path and wooded walking trails. The route you choose changes the experience: the paved path is shared with cyclists and walkers, while the paths among the trees offer a quieter nature walk.
Paved bike path and Bethpage Bikeway
The paved route runs along the eastern side of the preserve and connects north with the Bethpage Bikeway. Expect other cyclists, walkers and people with strollers, especially at busy times. Slow down when passing and leave room for everyone using the path.
Walking and the Greenbelt Trail
The Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt Trail starts at Merrick Road and Ocean Avenue and continues through the preserve. The wooded paths give you a closer look at the stream and surrounding vegetation. Stay on established trails and follow posted signs.
How long is the trail?
There is no single distance for every visit: it depends on your entrance, turnaround point and whether you continue onto the Bethpage Bikeway. Plan an out-and-back walk or ride around the time you have available. The preserve route and the full regional bikeway are different journeys.
